Windsurfing: Avon beach Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: 20-25 knots Surf / Sea State: Choppy Air Temperature: 12°C Sea Temperature: 11°C Weather: Sunshine! Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Windsurf club mates were going to Avon early but I couldn't join them due
to morning commitments. Wasn't sure if I would go at all due to work and
the fact my 4.5 is being repaired at the moment, also my bent boom. In the
end thought sod it, it's sunny and windy, I haven't been for 2 weeks, I
NEED TO GO WINDSURFING!
Went to Avon in the hope of meeting up with Martin and co. Arrived at
2.30pm but they had already left :(
Not to worry, there was hardly a cloud in the sky and it was honking,
woohoo! Had my old battered 4.6 as emergency back-up, which was probably
the right size, but was reluctant to rig it. So went for the 5.2 with mucho
downhaul, with my bent boom (really need a new one...but it seemed to be
OK).
Was properly powered-up, maxed out at times, but never completely
over-powered (that new 5.2 is damn good, takes masses of wind). Water had
receded past the sandbank so no decent waves unfortunately, and was too
powered up and feeling too rusty/un-fit to really go for anything. Took me
a while to warm up but then turned into a very nice session in the
sunshine. Gybes are coming along very nicely on the inside, although the
exits are still messy. Gybes on the outside in the bigger chop and wind
were pants, not a single one dry :-<
A good session, the sunshine really topped it off. Just a shame I missed
the Windsurf club gang, and also I was the only person out for much of the
time, so was a bit lonely. If I'd known I would be by myself I would have
gone to Hayling, where the waves would have been better mid to low tide. Ho
hum never mind.
